'Love is
medicine, not a reward'
Hospice –
Helping Hand Foundation
The
Hungarian Hospice Foundation has been working since 1991. It has been looking
after patients with the need for that kind of treatment with the hospice spirit
and humane care.
In
Mosonmagyaróvár we have been doing hospice treatment in patients' homes since
2009. Until 2014 in Mosonmagyaróvár and Jánossomorja and since 2014 in the
whole district.
According
to the spirit characterising the international hospice movement, we deal with
easing the physical and mental suffering of incurable patients, primarily with
tumours, who can only have symptomatic treatment. Our main prioroty is
preservation of human dignity. In addition, we help the closest relatives to bear the burdens
of the disease and the mourning later on. In our view, this service has not
only been chosen by us but we believe that it has chosen us as well.
We
look after 25-50 patients a year. Obviously, institutional care is also needed
besides home care so we have set an objective to create an in-patient hospice
care. It can be realised with the support of the foundation with the hope for
state aid.
The
Hospice Helping Hand Foundation was registered in April 2016. Its main
objective is to give financial support to the care of cancer patients who need
palliative hospice care.
The
Hospice House with 8 beds will be created in the building of the Parish of
Magyaróvár at 2 Lotz Károly Street.
The
reconstruction of the building as well as the operation of the service mean
significant financial sacrifices.
The
building was originally a kind of hospital, so with the hospice as a 'shelter'
brings it back to its original activity. The spirit of the place, the closeness
of the chapel and the cross, the determination of the relatives and the people
involved and the patience of the patients can give strength to this difficult
task.
